Fragrance of the Qur’an: Reflections on Verses of Beauty and Wisdom
Like many of us, you like to read a good book. The Global Read aims to make it easy to do just that. We've selected books that bring awareness to the theme of compassion and relate to one or more of the Charter's twelve sectors. You will have the opportunity to hear directly from the book's author in a live webinar format. Better yet, you're given the chance to interact with the author and ask questions and/ or comment on their book.

To participate in these conversations, you'll need to register for the conference call. The link will be sent to you once you sign up to participate. If you cannot join the author and guests live and have questions you'd like to pose, please send them to us in advance. The recording will be available on the Charter website for viewing later and all who register will receive a copy of the link via email.

In this book, Jamal illustrates the treasured Sufi practice of meditating on a beautiful Qur’anic verse, accompanied by another Qur’anic verse, saying of the Prophet Muhammad, or teaching story or poetry of the mystics such as Rumi, Hafez or Rabia. The “accompaniments” illuminate the original verse. By pondering on them, one might begin to feel a shift within and slowly grow in higher consciousness. This spiritual evolvement is embodied in the traditional saying, “ Once the blush of the Beloved graces you, there is no going back to being a green apple. “
In this program, in response to questions, Jamal will reflect on various verses of beauty and wisdom from the Qur’an in order to understand some of its deeper meanings and relevance to our time and our world today. We invite you, regardless of your faith or no faith, to join us on this journey of discovery.
