Harmony of Humanity: Exploring Common Ground Through Music

Course Description:

This course is designed to take you on a transformative journey where the universal language of music becomes a bridge to understanding our shared human experiences, emotions, and values.

Music has been an integral part of every culture throughout history, reflecting the unique characteristics and traditions of different societies. From the rhythmic beats of African drums to the intricate melodies of Indian ragas, music provides insight into the lives, histories, and identities of people around the world. By studying various musical traditions, we gain a deeper appreciation for the diversity and richness of global cultures.

Course Objectives:

In "Harmony of Humanity," you will:

  • Explore the cultural significance of music from around the world.
  • Consider how music conveys and evokes emotions.
  • Learn about the role of music in promoting compassion and social change.
  • Develop a deeper appreciation for the diversity of human experiences.
  • Create and participate in musical activities that foster community and empathy.

Join us on this enlightening journey, and discover how music can be a powerful tool for understanding and celebrating our common humanity.

Cost:

This 14-part course is offered to the Charter for Compassion community gratis.  However, please consider making a donation of at least $1 per session or the cost of a cup of coffee, chai or tea per session.  Choosing not to donate is fine.  We want all to participate. By registering for the course you will receive an invitation to join the Charter's Sutra platform where by you will have access to two programs of music that preceided this offering complete with mp4s of 24 previous programs.  

 

The course will be offered on the following Wednesdays: 

September 4, 11 and 25; 
October 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30; 
November 6, 13  and 20; 
December 4, 11 and 18.

All sessions are at 8 am (Pacific Time for US and Canada). 

All Sept and Oct times are PDT; Nov and Dec are PST.
