EdNet Forum: Prison Narratives: A Practice of Empathy and Human Dignity

Registration is closed for this event
The Education Network Forum (EdNet Forum) is the Charter for Compassion's way to experience new philosophies, pedagogies, and methodologies of education as they are in practice today. It is also an opportunity to explore the neuroscience of the brain and its relationship to education. At the same time, it is our way of opening the door to seeing how social-emotional learning, the acquisition of spiritual growth, compassion, and kindness can be modeled and taught as a skill. Our intention in offering the Forum is to cover relevant topics from conception of a child to parenting and exploring the continual timeline of learning to the end of life.

IMPORTANT NOTE: This special session will now be hosted as part of the Compassionate Action Conference on May 14–15, and will take place on the RingCentral Events platform instead of Zoom.

Date: Thursday, May 15 @7:00am to 9am PT

With: Natalie Updike from Shorecrest Preparatory School

In English 12 Honors: Prison Narratives at Shorecrest Preparatory School in St. Petersburg, Florida, students enter a semester-long, senior elective to investigate twentieth- and twenty-first century autobiographies by imprisoned and formerly imprisoned people in the United States–the country with the highest imprisonment rate in the world.

This course also offers guest speakers and/or access to regional prison book organizations, particularly the Appalachian Prison Book Project. This non-profit, in particular, does not serve Florida, but the instructor has meaningful contacts within APBP, allowing student connections “beyond the page.”

To join us, we kindly ask you to complete a quick registration on the new platform. This will ensure you receive your access link and are able to attend your session smoothly.
